Back in 2019, Beechwood gained it's first School Dog and she was an instant hit!
Luna loved being in school and being around the staff and children. She was very chilled and loved a stroke from passers by. Luna worked with children for lots of different reasons: from visits to classrooms when children are learning about pets; to performing her tricks (especially the tidy up trick) and going for walks with children on thier Science or Geography fieldwork. She was sometimes just there when needed as a smiling face or when a child needed a cuddle. She especially enjoyed it when children have earned a ‘reward’ walk with her and they take her for a walkies on the field but she also loved just chilling and listening to children read.
Sadly, Luna died when she was only 6 years old. She will be forever missed by the Beechwood Community- you can read all about her in our Remebering Luna book in the main entrance.
After careful consideration, Mrs Snell has chosen to bring another dog into the lives of the children of Beechwood. Nessa, another black labrador, joined the Beechwood family in September 2025 as an 8 week old puppy. She is slowly getting used to the school, spending short amounts of time here, and attending her very important Puppy School. Here she will learn the vital skills needed to be a successful school dog.Â
When you come for a visit, please let staff know if you are allergic or have a phobia, and Nessa will have a little nap out of the way during your time with us.Â
