At Beechwood Primary School, teaching children about the protected characteristics helps children to understand the importance of respect, equality, and inclusion. It ensures they learn to value differences, challenge discrimination, and build positive relationships with others. By introducing these ideas early, the school prepares pupils to be kind, responsible citizens who contribute to a fair and respectful community both inside and outside of school.
Throughout our curriculum, we aim to identify any Protected Characteristic a person of significnace identifies as having. You will also notice the use of the following icons around school to support children in linking the Protected Characteristics to people they admire. For example, on our Little People Big Dreams book shelf.Â
We also use our Picture News Assemblies to discuss the Protected Characteristics.Â
